Never Try To Sell A Comb To A Bald Man

With so many marketing lists on the market it can be very difficult and time consuming to diligently qualify them to make sure that the list fits your target market and offer correctly. There are three basic list types, compiled, response and survey based lists. Please contact me for definitions and applications of these types of lists.

Taylor List Consulting will meet with you to discuss direct marketing and how the right list combined with the right audience, using the right media can help you grow your business. I will help you figure out your target market, offer and appropriate list to use. Direct marketing is not as expensive as you may think. Using the right list directed toward the right target market with the best offer means you don't need to mail thousands of pieces! Contact Sharon Taylor today to set up your FREE consultation.

Top 10 mistakes businesses make when selecting a marketing list Here are three of the top 10 mistakes.

I developed this list based on my 10 years of experience in the list and data brokerage industry. To receive the complete listing, please contact me and I will send it to you with no obligations.

1) Using a broker who is exclusive to one list owner and/or vendor.

When you use an exclusive list broker, you typically will not get a list recommended if it is not managed by that list owner/vendor. They will fit your target market into their list selection instead of using the best list to fit your target. This prevents you from receiving an unbiased list recommendation.

2) Not paying attention to the monthly hotline counts during your selection.

A "hotline" count is the added consumer universe for the given month. These are "new to file" records and tend to respond better because they do not suffer the same list fatigue from being "over-marketed". Pay attention to this hotline universe quantity of records. If this is a small quantity, then the list owner is not getting a good number of new customers so the customers currently on the file are getting mailed to frequently. Your piece may get lost in all of their mail.

3) Not checking usage on the file.

Usage shows what companies have used the list. There are two kinds of usage, continuation and test. It is best to look at the continuation list of companies to see if there are similar companies using the list on a continual basis. Your competitors are having success with these programs if they continue to use the file. Consider using these sources as the recipients will enjoy the multiple offers and choices, and you protect your market share.
